Haiti - Security : The Faculty of Ethnology, suspends all its activities

On Tuesday, following the violent incidents that occurred the day before at the Faculty of Ethnology https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21216-haiti-flash-students-set-fire-to-faculty-of-ethnology.html the Council of the Faculty in a note announces the suspension until further notice of the academic and administrative activities.

"[...] The Council of the Faculty of Ethnology presents its sympathies to the officials, professors and students who were victims of the incidents that occurred on 12 June following an attempted sequestration perpetrated against members of the Decanate and certain teachers by some former students expelled from UEH. He reaffirms them all its solidarity.

The Council wishes to inform the public in general and the staff of the Faculty in particular that the academic and administrative activities are suspended until further notice. It urges all members of the community to refrain from access to space until appropriate arrangements can be made to ensure the safety, of lives, public and private property, as well as academic and administrative whose it has the charge.

The Council of the Faculty of Ethnology calls for calm and serenity so that these difficult moments are as short as possible [...]"

For its part, the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (RUEH), informed of incidents at the Faculty of Ethnology (FE), expresses "its deepest concerns" and is working to set up a commission of inquiry which will be responsible for clarifying all these incidents, in view of the useful follow-up.

"The Rectorate, presents its sympathies to the victims" and also calls for calm in order to restore a climate conducive to the regular functioning of the institution.
