Haiti - DR : Seizure of more than 2,200 false documents in the hands of Haitians

During the last 9 months (August 2016 to April 2017), the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) in the Dominican Republic has seized 2,202 false or modified documents during national control operations, on the migration situation of foreigners (Haitians) living in Dominican territory.

Lieutenant General Máximo William Muñoz Delgado, Director General of the DGM said that out of this number there were 1,478 false documents and 724 counterfeit identity documents (identity theft).

The 1,478 false documents included 1,239 cards of the National Regularization Plan of Foreigners (PNRE), 126 Haitian passports, 69 Dominican identity cards, 40 Dominican visas, 3 Dominican residences and 1 Dominican passport.

Regarding the 724 identity theft documents, DGM reported that they included: 459 PNRE cards, 241 Haitian passports, 15 Dominican Cédulas and 4 Haitian National Identity Card (CIN).

The DGM indicated that an investigation was being opened with other State Security agencies to identify those responsible for this false and falsifying network, which targets Haitians in an irregular situation.
