Haiti - Cuba : Week of the Haitian culture, a first in Cuba

"A week devoted to the culture of Haiti and to the 213th anniversary of the triumph of the Haitian Revolution, will take place for the first time in Havana" (Cuba), announced the Ambassador of Haiti to Cuba, Géri Benoit.

"The program of activities will start on Monday, January 23rd, with floral offerings to José Martí, national hero of Cuba, and the Haitian heroes Alexandre Pétion and Toussaint Louverture [...] Throughout the day there will be present

of groups carrying of Haitian heritage in this country, such as those based on the territory of the East," declared the Ambassador of Haiti who thanked the historian Eusebio Leal Havana for his support.

The next day will be held the inauguration of the numismatic exhibition with more than 50 pieces and curiosities from Port-au-Prince.

On January 25, the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, will host a concert of Haitian music in which will participate the National Choir of Cuba.

This Week of Haitian culture, will also include presentations of documentary films :

Wednesday 25 : "Port-au-Prince mío" at the San Gerónimo College

Thursday 26 : "De Kiskeya a Haití, a dónde fueron a parar nuestros árboles" at Multicine Infanta

Saturday 28 January will open an exhibition of Haitian paintings, sculptures and photographs, with works by the "Fundación Antonio Núñez Jiménez de la Naturaleza y el Hombre".

The week will end on Monday, January 30th in San Gerónimo de La Havana, with an activity organized by the Caribbean Chair of the University of Havana.
