Haiti - Insecurity : Four French attacked in Petion-Ville

Vanel Lacroix, the police commissioner of Petion-Ville, confirmed that four French cooperants were attacked on Sunday by inhabitants of Petion-Ville. One of cooperant would have been injured. The perpetrators of this attack have not been identified so far, no arrests were reported.

According to police, the probable origin of this attack could be caused by the growing of tension between population and Minustah accused of being behind the Cholera in Haiti. An unfortunate confusion, fueled by fear of the epidemic which is now spreading in the ten departments.

The last assessment, dated of Friday, November 19, 2010, and published today Tuesday 23 reported 1.344 deaths and 23.377 cases hospitalized and treated since the beginning of the epidemic (October 19).

The last assessment (cumulative), dated of Friday, November 20, 2010 and published today, Tuesday 23, by the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), reported 24.296 cases hospitalized and treated since the beginning and 1.415 deaths.

Given the social context, NGOs are asking their employees to observe the utmost caution.
