Haiti - Politic : The National Port Authority, at the time of the reform
Monday in press conference, Alix Célestin, General Director of the National Port Authority (APN), indicated that "of qualitative reforms are underway at the APN, with among other of training for employees," stressing that on 2,000 initial employees, the active staff of the institution has been reduced to 800 employees.
On major construction works of the APN he explained "The port reform began. The development plan of the port of Port-au-Prince began with the part North. Works are progressing," announcing that "October 17, 2015, we expect large equipment carriers for the reconstruction of the Port of Port-au-Prince," adding that "the three port fronts (North, South, West) are in the process of being refurbished for better services. USAID [US Agency for International Development] assists in achieving these improvement projects. The ports of Petit-Goâve and Jérémie were rebuilt. The Port of Port-au-Prince is ready to receive the many freight [...]"
Moreover, Alix Célestin assured that the Haitian government was making every effort to increase revenues, mainly by fighting tirelessly to eradicate smuggling. In this regard, he indicated that the existing structures have been strengthened especially as 23 newly banned products of land transit of the Dominican Republic, will arrive by boat. Wanting reassuring on the supply of these products he said that "three shipping lines linking Port-au-Prince to the Dominican Republic and the same for the Cap-Haitien."
Finally, Alix Célestin informed that the development budget for the period 2013-2025 was 230 million, whose 90 million are already in use for the institution's needs.
