Haiti - Reconstruction : Inauguration of communal infrastructure in the North and Northeast

Thursday in Trou du Nord, as part of the Support Program for Local Governance and Investment (AGIL) funded by the European Union to the tune of 5.5 million euros in partnership with the Haitian government, Representatives of Ministry of Interior, the Office of Management and Human Resources (OMRH), of the Office of the National Authorising Officer of the European Development Fund (EDF), of the European Union and local authorities in the North and Northeast, inaugurated a series of communal infrastructure.

Funded by the Investment Fund of Local Authorities (FICT) [launched in October 2013 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9750-haiti-politic-a-decisive-step-in-the-process-of-decentralization-in-haiti.html ] to the tune of 341,000 euros, these facilities include: the municipal market of Sainte Suzanne, the public square of Ferrier and th e bridge of the ravine Charles in Trou du Nord.

Present at the inauguration, the new Ambassadors of the European Union, Vincent Degert, declared "Thechallenge of European aid is to concretely improve the lives of the population. With these new facilities, we ensure with the Haitian government, to meet the needs of Communes [...] The local authorities are involved in the first place. They have a major role to play in identifying solutions that promote investment in their commune and reduce, ultimately, poverty."

For the EDF National Authorising Officer, Charles Jean Jacques "At a time when Haiti wants to allow all children to live better, without any exclusion, it is good to be able to rely on partners willing to walk hand in hand with the government for more success in the interventions." He estimated that when all members of a community decides to take their destiny, nothing can hinder their progress, because it is proof of the good functioning of democracy and the progress of the decentralization process .

Ten other communes, located in Cap corridor (North)/Ouanaminthe (North-East) also benefit from the AGIL/FICT program. Also, remember that the FICT provides grants to Local Authorities of 13 communes in order to allow councils to increase their management and execution capabilities in their respective municipalities.
