Haiti - Culture : Towards the creation of a Caribbean Carnival Network

Ms. Joan Dithny Raton, the Minister of Culture, at the head of a delegation composed in particular of Erol Josué, Director of the National Bureau of Ethnology (BNE) and some members of his cabinet, participated in Santiago de Cuba to a meeting on the establishment of the Caribbean Carnivals Network. In the coming days, the Minister Raton will sign a memorandum of understanding with other States in the region for the creation of this network.

Invited to participate in the Festival del Fuego in the context of 500 years of the city of Santiago, the Minister proceeded to the presentation of the Haitian Carnival, alongside other Caribbean panelists.

In addition, the Haitian delegation took part in a symposium hosted by Dr. Alfonso Muñera Cavadia, Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), on cultural cooperation of the great States of the Caribbean.

On the sidelines of this 3-days mission, the Minister of Culture, met with the First Lady of the Bahamas, Bernadette Christie; the Ministers of Culture Julian Gonzalez Toledo (Cuba) and Daniel Johnson (Bahamas) and the Mayor of the city of Santiago, Raúl Fornés Valenciano and discussed with the Secretary General of the ACS among others on the importance of cultural exchanges between the countries of the Caribbean.
