Haiti - Education : Launch of the National Office for Learning Partnership

Wednesday, at the National Palace, took place the launching ceremony of the National Office of Learning Partnership (ONAPE) [whose the law was promulgated November 19, 2007 in Le Moniteur #102] and of installation of its Director General, Pierre Delima. The event was held under the high patronage of President Michel Martelly, attended by the Prime Minister, Evans Paul and the Minister of National Education, Nesmy Manigat.

Recall that ONAPE is an autonomous body

with administrative and cultural character under the supervision of the Minister of Education, whose mission is: to promote the effective participation of non-public sector; to develop and implement development policies and programs of Education in Haiti; participate in the development of policy and the definition of objectives of minsitryon partnership between the two sectors (private and public); participate in the development of plans Programmes and Projects related to the objectives of the National Plan of Education and Training (PNEF) and carry out activities related to the management of the public and non-public partnership in the education sector;

Addressing the Director ONAPE, the Minister Manigat declared "As Minister of Education, I feel a satisfaction to give substance and life to a major political action. I want to solemnly assure you this morning, my firm disposition and my total availability to accompany you. Thank you for having accepted this heavy responsibility while wishing you the best possible success."

In his speech, the President Martelly declared "I am pleased to see that the main education indicators have improved. The ONAPE is intended to be a key tool to address the problems related to education and to find appropriate solutions [...] One of the missions of the ONAPEwill be to establish a social consensus around the challenges of education. I welcome the initiative of the Minister Manigat who understood the urgency to form the first Board of Directors of ONAPE."
