Haiti - Security : Final departure of Bolivian peacekeepers

Friday, before his departure from La Paz to Port-au-Prince Reymi Ferreira, Bolivian Minister of Defense declared that the decision to permanently conclude the participation of Bolivia to the Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah), was part of a schedule established by the United Nations "As the situation in Haiti is politically stable, now there is more need to intervene. It is a phase-out schedule of all affected military forces," recalling that since September 2006, the Bolivian army had moved 205 soldiers in each of the fifteen missions in Haiti.

The farewell ceremony at the Mission of Bolivia, will take place on Tuesday May 26, in Tiahuanaco (name of an ancient Andean civilization) at the naval base in Port-au-Prince, where the Bolivian soldiers were based in presence of United Nations authorities and that of the Government of Haiti.

"Many Haitian schools will interpret folk dances of Bolivia, in a cultural demonstration of thanks to the military of the Andean country, which has gained the confidence of the Haitian population," added the Minister Ferreira.
