Haiti - Social : The Presidential Couple pays tribute to Haitian women

Friday, marked the 29 years of the struggle of Haitian women for emancipation and equal rights, through the National Day of the movement of Haitian women introduced in 1986.

On this occasion the First Lady, Sophia Martelly declared "Today marks the 29 years of the struggle of Haitian women for emancipation and equal rights. Chapeau ba pou medam yo ! Honor and merit to the pioneers of the struggle for human rights and the improvement of the status of women in our country ! As worth Haitian women, as worth the nation. The change also includes women, without exception !"

For his part, President Michel Martelly declared "I pay tribute to the female gender on the occasion of the National Day of the movement of Haitian women [...] I salute the courage of women in difficult situations [.. .] the courageous Haitian women contribute, through their determination and ability to fight, to project the society of tomorrow. The violence of any kind, made against women must be denounced and banned in our society [...]" recalling that women, who represent over 50% of the population "must be placed in optimum conditions for enjoy their work force."
