Haiti - Security : Close police cooperation between the two countries

Jose A. Polanco Gómez, the Dominican Police Chief, and Gerardo Chaumont, police commissioner of the Stabilization Mission of the United Nations in Haiti (MINUSTAH), discussed yesterday in Santo Domingo about the organized crime to which Haiti and the Dominican Republic must face.

According to a statement from the Dominican Police, during their discussions, the two men discussed issues related to drug trafficking and other related offenses. In addition, they talked on issues relating to bilateral agreements and discussed the qualifications of senior Haitian police officers, which will be sent to the Dominican Republic to take part in training including training in criminal investigations, drug trafficking, vehicle theft and intelligence.

The Dominican police chief pledged to give effect to each of the projects on the table of discussion to ensure the safety of citizens, both in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Polanco Gomez further stated, "the politic of exchange of information with Haitian counterparts will be reinforced to a common front against organized crime and any other action that could undermine social stability"

For its part, the Commissioner of MINUSTAH has expressed its satisfaction at the cooperation shown by the Dominican General Staff.
