Haiti - Religion :The Haitian-Muslim community rebuild their mosques

Since last January, the organization "Life for Relief and Development" has distributed nearly $3 million for emergency aid and reconstruction assistance for Haiti. One of his major accomplishments was the renovation of four mosques in the capital Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

The staff of "Life for Relief and Development" has worked closely with the Haitian-Muslim community to assess their needs and not just renovate the mosques, but also improve them.

Masjid Al Fatiha in Delmas 18, which is the oldest mosque in Haiti, has been completely renovated and equipped with a new carpet for the prayer room, plumbing for washing, cabinets for Korans, speaker for the minaret and a filtration system for drinking water. Imam's residence, adjoining the mosque, was also renovated. Similar work took place in mosques: Masjid Masjid Allahu Akbar, Masjid Al Tawhid, and Masjid Yassin.

"Life for Relief and Development" provides the reconstruction of the mosque Masjid Al Qadri whose structures were severely damaged by the earthquake, making this place of worship impractical and dangerous. This project is partly funded by the charitable organization Al-Rahma, based in Ra's al-Khaimah in the UAE, and "Life for Relief and Development".

Despite these achievements, much remains to be done and "Life for Relief and Development" is committed to continue working in the reconstruction process in Haiti.
