Haiti - Social : Results of «Ede Pèp» Program (October 2014)

The Government Martelly-Lamothe, in order to improve the living conditions of the population has since 2012 established the National Social Assistance Programme "EDE PÈP", this initiative aims to provide direct assistance to the most vulnerable stata of the Haitian population. This program constitutes a set of subprograms that target the different sectors of civil life, its interventions are focused around education, support for economic initiatives, distribution of food kits and hot meals, and in the agricultural sector a supply of kits and seed distribution. The "EDE PÈP" Program is present throughout the national territory and work to reach the majority of the population in difficult situations.

At this beginning of fiscal year 2014-2015, the program "Ede Pèp" made several distributions and registrations for the month of October 2014.

Solidarity Voucher (Bon Solidarité) that represents a cash transfer to people in difficult situations, made a distribution of 17,000 vouchers of 500 gourdes. To date, 6,879 vouchers have already been recovered by the beneficiaries.

To fight hunger, "Kantin Mobil" and "Panye Solidarite", which consist of a distribution of food, have on the whole territory delivered 134,900 hot meals and 69,525 food kits. To facilitate access to a regular diet, 88,000 hot meals at the rate of 10 gourdes per dish of "Resto Pèp" have also been distributed in the neighborhoods of the metropolitan area of Port au Prince.

In addition, the network "Restoran Kominotè" has now un total of 358 restaurants throughout the country. Each restaurant sells to 10 gourdes the dish for a total of 179,000 meals every day from Monday to Friday.

In the agricultural sector, 100 bags of seeds, 42 agricultural tools were given to the beneficiaries of "Kore Peyizan".

With the subprogram "Kredi Fanm lakay" 37 women in addition have benefited from microcredit to start their small business in rural areas.

The Government Martelly-Lamothe continues to work to enable the program "Ede Pèp" to expand to provide the necessary support to the most vulnerable families and increase the number of beneficiaries.
