Haiti - Economy : Things are moving at Sunrise Airways

Haitian airline, Sunrise Airways has opened a a new maintenance center (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul - MRO) in the Dominican Republic, making it the first airline of Haiti to have its own in-house maintenance capabilities. The new 8,000-square-foot facility is located at Cibao International Airport (STI) Santiago, Dominican Republic.

This center has the capacity to store 3 aircraft Jetstream 32 EP 19 seats, the same type used by Sunrise Airways. More than 2,200 line items of Jetstream 32 parts are stored between the Sunrise MRO in Santiago and its headquarters in Port-au-Prince, minimizing controllable service disruptions.

"Our Santiago facility is convenient to our base of operations in Port-au-Prince and carries all the necessary approvals from the Office National de l'Aviation Civile (OFNAC), giving us a solid foundation upon which to build our networkn" indicated Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways in a press release.

In addition, Sunrise Airways announced that it became the Haitian airline to gain Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) membership. "Membership in the Flight Safety Foundation is a proud and significant step forward, not just for Sunrise Airways, but also for aviation in Haiti in general," declared Philippe Bayard "This helps to validate the professional state of our current operation within the country, while also ensuring we meet the highest international safety standards [...]"
