Haiti - Politic : Study visit in Martique for a Haitian delegation

Saturday a delegation composed of 8 Departmental delegates, accompanied by 7 executives of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities have left the country for Martinique [French department]. The Prefecture of Martinique, will host the delegation.

This study visit responds to the request made by the Minister at the Symposium of Delegates held in October 2012, which wanted that these representatives of the Executive have the opportunity to experience the environment and the prerogatives of their French counterparts. This action is part of the actions of the French Cooperation and is funded by the Priority Solidarity Fund (FSP) in support of the decentralization process in Haiti, project led by an International Technical Expert seconded to the Minister of the Interior, who will accompany them.

Activities planned from July 6 to 15 will allow the delegation to discover the functioning of prefectural services and their relationship with local authorities services.

Moreover, Martinique who is familiar with the same environmental and climate problems than Haiti, will share its experience on the tasks and responsibilities of the French prefects in term of civil security and risk management of major natural events.

This seminar could materialize a sustainable and effective partnership between the decentralized administrations essential to ensure the continuity of government services in the territories.
