Haiti - Justice : The Cry of alarm of prisoners of Petit-Goâve has been heard

Following the cry of alarm launched on May 18, by prisoners of Petit-Goâve on their living conditions unbearable and unacceptable https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-8603-haiti-social-cry-of-alarm-of-prisoners-of-petit-goave.html , it was decided at the highest level of the Haitian justice, to begin transferring the prisoners to other prisons Centres.

Saturday, May 25, 40 prisoners out of a total of 126, were transferred by agents of the National Penitentiary Administration (APENA), from the custody cells of the police station of Petit-Goâve [transformed for more than 3 years in prison], towards other detention centers : 11 in Carrefour and 29 at the National Penitentiary.

Me Jean Mainviel, the Substitute of Government Commissioner intervened to keep in Petit-Goâve the prisoners that will be heard and judged soon to the criminal and correctional assize, which are held regularly at the end of each week.

According to a police source, which mentions a decision of the central authorities, all prisoners of Petit-Goâve will be transferred to Port-au-Prince, thus, the next group of 40 inmates, will be conducted at the National Penitentiary.
