Haiti - Reconstruction : State of disrepair of Presses Nationales

Tuesday, Régine Godefroy, Minister of Communication, carried out a visit at Presses Nationales, (Street of Centre) in charge of the printing and publication of official acts of the Republic.

It was mainly for Ms. Godefroy to take note of the difficulties faced by this institution, which operates under the supervision of his ministry.

Minister of Communication, accompanied by Gérald Compère, Technical Director of the institution, has discovered a dilapidated building, strongly affected by the earthquake of January 12, 2010. Archives dating back over 25 years, are in a deplorable state, unclassified and abandoned in the middle of embankments and other materials. The equipment in operation are installed in difficult conditions and there is no storage space for raw materials (paper, ink, paper, etc...) Nor space for the storage of finished products.

About the state of degradation of this large institution, responsible among other things for the production of the official newspaper "Le Moniteur", the Minister Godfrey, is committed to take all necessary steps to remedy the situation and allow employees to evolve in a much more liveable space to continue their work.
