Haiti - Culture : Rara Festival 2013 in Léogâne

Sunday, Léogâne celebrated its Rara in the presence of tens of thousands of spectators. On the stand of the Union of Raras of Léogâne (URAL), erected to the street La Croix, Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture with Gonzague Day, Departmental Delegate of West declared open the official parade of bands around 5:00 p.m.

An artistic representation of a tree adorned with musical instruments rara, opened the show, recalling that this year's festivities were under the theme of reforestation "Rebwazman se zafe rara" followed the march "manbo" (voodoo priestess) observing a ritual adapted to the event ; a choreography of farmers, sugar cane in hand ; Paul Allande of the URAL interpreted the image "Léogâne wish the revaluation of the culture of this plant and the restarting of the Darbonne sugar mill" ; demonstration of a "majo jon" (juggler) ; a mime of Haiti's independence, with the hero on horseback and sword in hand...

The parade artistic, colorful and musical, preceded the group performance on the concrete of the Nationale #2. Sainte Rose, Rosoli, Accolade, "Renome se poto fè" have trained in their rhythm the public of stands and the crowd on the street. "Modèle d'Haïti' and "Tirailleur de la garde" makes dance thousands of dancers.

Throughout Holy Week, the band took to the streets of Léogâne for the greatest joy of the spectators. The neighborhood of Trouin was entitled to its parade Saturday in the pure respect of its commitment to traditional instruments and ornaments (without trumpet or saxophone). Holy Thursday has been organized the traditional evening of queens where was elected the Queen of queens.

The financial support and assistance provided by the Presidency, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Collectivity was greatly appreciated by the Organizing Committee of the festivities and groups. Furthermore the Minister Josette Darguste, David Bazile, the Interior Minister and the Delegate West have shared this moment of celebration and joy of Léogânais.
