Haiti - Reconstruction : Improvement of drinking water service for more than 160,000 people

The recent financial assistance agreement signed between the Swiss Ambassador, Edita Vokral, Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works and Engineering Lionel Joseph Duvalsaint, CEO of the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA), in the context of the bilateral cooperation Switzerland-Haiti, will allow DINEPA to strengthen its Rural Departmental Units (URD)​​, present in the 10 departments and on the island of La Gonâve.

This financial assistance, of 1,7 million U.S. dollars is "[...] a kind of failover, a passage from humanitarian action rather ad hoc and of short-term to a structuring action of long term. It also demonstrates the willingness of Switzerland to continue its contributions to the improvement of living conditions of the Haitian people [...]," declared the Ambassador of Switzerland.

The new project, term of this agreement aims to strengthen the URD of the DINEPA, in its work of supervision and control of the management bodies of collective systems of drinking water, with an emphasis on the treatment and control of the quality of water delivered to consumers.

This project, which will last 2 years, will benefit more than 165.000 people in rural areas, who will benefit, of an improvement in the distribution services of drinking water. This project will also support, of analyzes of water quality and will ensure the storage, in good conditions, of products for water treatment.
