Haiti - Education : Inauguration of the school of application Jules Verne

The Embassy of Japan in Haiti, proceeded last week to the ceremonie of inauguration of the "Project for the construction and equipment of the school of application Jules Verne". The ceremony was held in the new premises of the school, on the road of Frères in the presence of Ambassador Kenji Kuratomi, Charge d'Affaires ai of Japan and Haiti, Mr. Joel Gouy, President of "Ayiti Education" and Director of the school of application Jules Verne.

This project amounting to U.S. $ 92.264, which allowed the construction of four additional classrooms, for the normaliens and the students in the fundamental section nd the acquisition of school furniture for these 4 rooms, falls within the framework of program of Assistance in donation to the Local Micro-Projects contributing to the Human Security (APL) of the Japanese Government.

This new building will allow to accommodate one hundred additional students from the 3rd to the 5th fundamental year and also thirty students from the second year of the Normal School (école normale).

The promotion of education in Haiti has become a priority for the Government of Japan because, as statistics continue to prove it the number of fundamental schools in Haiti is clearly insufficient and the enrollment rate is less than 50% for children of school age ; the number and the quality of teachers is also insufficient.

In this same area, the Embassy of Japan, has already signed 4 contracts of donation foreducation projects at the beginning of the year 2012 in the framework of program APL, whose works are in progress.
