Haiti - FLASH : Very bad news, the Supreme Court authorizes the Trump administration to revoke TPS

Very bad news for Haitian nationals living in the United States. In its decision on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the Supreme Court, by a vote of 6 to 3, overturned the rulings issued by federal courts in New York and Washington, D.C., which had suspended the administration's efforts to revoke the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) granted to more than 350,000 Haitians and some 6,100 Syrians.

The highest court in the United States authorized the Trump administration to revoke the TPS granted to hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians, which allowed them to reside legally in the United States. These individuals are now at the mercy of immigration authorities, who can deport them to their countries of origin at any time.

"TPS statute plainly bars consideration of respondents' non-constitutional claims," wrote Justice Samuel Alito for the majority. This decision restricts the ability of immigrants and immigrant rights organizations to sue the government over TPS decisions and to allege violations of federal law when the program is terminated.

This decision could have consequences for more than one million immigrants from 17 countries who have benefited from TPS.

The White House welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, stating in a press release that it confirmed Trump's belief that TPS is temporary in nature.

"This status was never intended to be a pathway to permanent status or legal residency and it is committed to the discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security," said White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson, adding, "The Trump Administration continues to lawfully end the egregious abuses to our immigration system that have hurt Americans for years."

Following this decision, many questions remain, for example, for Haitians who have had children in the United States, who are therefore American citizens: are their Haitian parents still at risk of deportation?
