30,000 people have fled the violence

On Friday, May 22, 2026, the UN reported that approximately 30,000 people had fled gang violence in Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas over the past ten days, particularly in Cité Soleil. According to the UN, the World Food Programme (WFP) distributed emergency food aid to 8,500 displaced people, while nine schools supported by the agency suspended their meal programs, affecting approximately 12,000 students.
