Mission to Strengthen Social Protection in Artibonite and Northern Haiti

Friday April 24, 2026, as part of local social protection, Marc-Elie Nelson, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST), accompanied by Jhonny Raphaël, Director General of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS), and Kesner Romilus, Director General of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) led an important mission to Saint-Michel de l'Attalay (Dept. Artibonite).

The day was marked by several major advances for the commune :

• The Minister inaugurated the new premises of the CAS Directorate in Saint-Michel, guaranteeing better access to public services;

• More than ten technicians received their assignment letters to consolidate operational capacities in the field;

• Nearly 1,000 new beneficiaries will be identified to receive their membership cards, giving them formal access to CAS services.

Sensitive to the plight of Displaced People fleeing insecurity in Marchand-Dessalines, the delegation went to the Place Publique of Saint-Michel, where the Minister announced :

• An off-site community restaurant has been set up, allowing around 300 hot meals to be served daily to the most vulnerable people;

• Sensitive to the situation of displaced people, the Minister also announced the upcoming establishment of a new restaurant directly on the accommodation site, where nearly 800 people currently live, following episodes of insecurity which affected the town of Marchand-Dessalines and its surroundings;

• A rigorous analysis of living conditions was carried out to adapt the Government's emergency and structural responses.

On the sidelines of the social activities, Minister Nelson spoke with officials of the local police station, welcoming the commitment of the police to the safety of the population.

After this stage, the delegation will continue its mission in Gonaïves, the historic city of independence, before heading to Cap-Haitien.
