Economic recovery and security challenges : discussions between the PM of Haiti and IMF

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, accompanied by his delegation, met with officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss the ongoing economic program, security challenges, and reform priorities in Haiti.

The IMF commended the progress made in public financial management, particularly the maintenance of reserves deemed satisfactory despite a challenging international context.

The government reaffirmed its priority of restoring security and state authority throughout the country, especially in areas affected by armed groups. This action also aims to create the necessary conditions for holding credible, free, and inclusive elections by the end of 2026.

The discussions also focused on job creation, particularly for young people, and on continuing tax reforms, including revenue collection and strengthening border controls.

Finally, the parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the judicial system and combating impunity to consolidate the rule of law and restore confidence.

The IMF reiterated its commitment to supporting Haiti through technical assistance and targeted support for national priorities.
