Haiti - Justice : Strike within the justice, discussions and proposals to end the crisis

Following the notice of a work stoppage initiated by the Clerks and Judicial Officers of the Republic and announced by the Associations, ANAGH (National Association of Clerks Haitians) and the ANHJRH (National Association of Judicial Officers of the Republic of Haiti) was held a meeting at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security between the Minister and the representatives of these associations.

After welcoming remarks by the Minister of Justice, the Clerks and Judicial Officers present wished to state their grievances. They have recalling the unfulfilled promises since 2007 by various owners of the Ministry and even the commitments made at the Prime Minister's Office during the period 2008/2009.

They took the opportunity to present the difficulties they encounter in their daily work and denounce the wage disparities that exist in the system. They also announced some particular cases including those of Me Fritz Victorin, Me Jean Claude Alféris of the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince and of Juliette Tassy of Special Tribunal of Labour.

After several exchanges Clerks and Judicial Officers met together to decide what to do. After deliberation and consultation with other members of the regional and local committees not present, they have decided to keep the work stoppage announced for Monday, January 16, 2012.

The Minister of Justice has taken note of this decision. However, he decided to keep open the doors of dialogue and of the concertation. He pledged to resolve the administrative problems faced by the Clerks and Judicial Officers mentioned above in the best time and put in place immediately after the lifting of the work stoppage a joint working committee to assess the budgetary cost of salary adjustments claimed by the Clerks and Judicial Officers of the Republic, from the fiscal year 2011/2012.

For their part, Clerks and Judicial Officers present have pledged to continue the concertation with their colleagues of local and regional committees for the lifting of the work stoppage.
