High-level meeting in preparation for the GSF deployment in Haiti

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in a context where security challenges demand urgent, structured, and coordinated responses, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé received a high-level United Nations delegation at the Prime Minister's Office. The delegation was led by Atul Khare, Assistant Secretary-General of the Department of Operational Support (USG/DOS).

This two-day official visit (March 31-April 1st) was part of the launch of operations for the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (BANUH), newly established by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793 (2025). https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45891-haiti-flash-the-security-council-has-voted-for-the-new-gang-repression-force.html

Mr. Atul Khare was accompanied by Ms. Daniela Kroslak, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH), and Stephen McOwan, Director of UNSOH Mission Support. The delegation held an in-depth working session with the Prime Minister, focusing on the operational, logistical, and institutional conditions necessary for the rapid and effective implementation of the international mechanism currently being deployed, particularly in the context of preparations for the Gang Repression Force.

During this session, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Haitian government's full commitment to addressing the national security emergency. He reiterated that restoring public safety is an absolute priority for government action, calling for a coordinated, structured, and immediate response to a persistent crisis that continues to severely affect the country's stability and the daily lives of its population.

Discussions also focused on the central role of BANUH and UNSOH in providing operational support, particularly in infrastructure planning, logistical coordination, and technical support for operations. This assistance includes mobilizing specialized partners to establish essential infrastructure and providing basic services, such as access to water, which are vital for the smooth running of operations on the ground.

Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening their cooperation in a spirit of close partnership, respect for national sovereignty, and operational efficiency, with a view to ensuring the success of this new phase of international support for the stabilization of Haiti.
