RFI Theatre Prize 2026 : Call for Submissions Open

RFI Theatre Prize 2026 : Call for Submissions Open

Radio France International (RFI) is launching the call for submissions for its 13th annual "RFI Theatre Prize 2026". Since its inception, this prize has highlighted a new generation of playwrights from Francophone Africa, Lebanon, and Haiti, through texts that explore the contemporary world.

This call for submissions is open until April 27, 2026, at midnight.

A dozen texts will be shortlisted for their literary and dramatic qualities, as well as their originality, before being submitted to the jury for a final vote in September.

Before participating, please read the rules carefully and proofread your text thoroughly before submitting it.

To participate, authors must be between 18 and 46 years old and submit a text in French with a minimum of 15 numbered pages. The prize is open exclusively to authors born and living in Africa, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, or the Middle East. To take into account local political situations, the call for submissions is also open to nationals of the aforementioned countries who have been living in France for less than four years and hold a resident permit or political refugee status. Texts must be original, unpublished in France, and written in French.

To submit your text, please use the following email address: prix.theatre@rfi.fr Each applicant must send their text with the title and the author's name, as well as the completed registration form.

The RFI Theatre Prize will be awarded in September in Limoges as part of the "Les Zébrures d'automne" festival, organized by "Les Francophonies - Des écritures à la scène".

The Prize aims to promote the richness of contemporary Francophone dramatic writing from the Global South and to foster the career development of young authors writing in French. RFI and its partners offer the winner professional support and media exposure through: a residency at the Villa Saint Louis Ndar in Senegal; a stage development residency based on the winning text at the Centre Dramatique National de Normandie-Rouen; a financial grant from the Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques (SACD); the organization and funding by the Institut français of a writing residency at the Maison des Auteurs in Limoges and in Paris with Théâtre Ouvert; promotion of the text and broadcast on RFI; and a public reading during the "Ça va, ça va le monde!" series, organized as part of the Avignon Festival.
