Haiti - FLASH : Plane goes off-runway at Antoine-Simon Airport in Les Cayes

The National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC) reports that an incident involving an Embraer 145 aircraft registered N271BC, operated by the company IBC, left the runway [which was wet from rain] during its landing at Antoine-Simon Airport in Les Cayes.

The aircraft was carrying five passengers and crew members. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries.

According to OFNAC, the aircraft, arriving from Miami and scheduled to land on runway 8 at 2:35 p.m. (local time), performed its first go-around at 2:36 p.m. During a second landing attempt at 2:40 p.m., the aircraft veered off the runway, appearing to experience braking difficulties and coming to a stop on the northeast shoulder.

This incident caused significant traffic disruption on National Highway #7 adjacent to the airport.

The Haitian National Police (PNH) were immediately deployed to the scene to secure the perimeter.

Technical teams from OFNAC and the National Airport Authority (AAN) will be on site this Saturday, March 21, in coordination with a team from IBC (International Business Corporation), to conduct a technical assessment of the incident. Appropriate measures will be implemented to ensure the safe and orderly resumption of airport operations. An investigation will be conducted in accordance with national procedures and international civil aviation safety standards to determine the exact causes of this incident.
