On January 4th, a few weeks before the opening ceremony, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that the use of Toussaint Louverture's image violated its regulations prohibiting any political propaganda on uniforms. Haiti was therefore forced to completely redesign its uniform. The revolutionary leader and the snake were removed from the design, but the red horse and the lush tropical landscape were retained. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46798-haiti-news-zapping.html

Cross-country skiing : poor performance by Stevenson Savart

On Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in Italy, French-Haitian skier Stevenson Savart finished 64th in the men's cross-country skiing final (skiathlon : 10 km classic style and 10 km skating style). He completed the course in 56:52.8, compared to a time of 46:11.0 achieved by the winner of this event, Norwegian Johannes Høsflot Klaebo. But for Stevenson, beyond the disappointing performance, he succeeded in his goal of raising Haiti's profile in winter sports. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46798-haiti-news-zapping.html
