Haiti - Tourism : Meeting on the challenges of air transport in the country

Engineer Raphaël Hosty, Minister of Transport, met with John Herrick Dessources, Minister of Tourism, to discuss the challenges facing air transport in Haiti.

During this meeting, the two ministers discussed concrete solutions to revive this key sector of the national economy.

Discussions focused primarily on the resumption of flights at Toussaint Louverture International Airport (AITL), considered a priority for revitalizing the sector. Participants identified the essential conditions for this revival, including confirmation of flight availability by airlines and improved safety in the country.

A major proposal was put forward : the creation of a guarantee fund for aircraft operators providing domestic flights.

Improving airport infrastructure nationwide was also discussed. It was proposed to establish, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, reception facilities at various airports and terminals, including AITL, Cap-Haïtien International Airport (AICH), Antoine Simon International Airport in Les Cayes, as well as the terminals of Guy Malary, Jacmel, and Jérémie.

Minister Hosty emphasized the importance of gradually improving Antoine Simon International Airport in Les Cayes to make it a platform that meets international standards.

The discussions demonstrated the commitment of the parties to collaborate to modernize airport infrastructure and boost the aviation sector. The commitments will be monitored by the relevant ministries, thus ensuring the effective implementation of the projects discussed.
