Haiti - Reconstruction : $14 million for improving drinking water in Jacmel
This week, a contract for an amount of 14 million dollars was signed between the IDB and AECID DINEPA to improve the water supply of the city of Jacmel, and various works for the Zorangers area.
"This contract is part of a program that was established between the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for the financing, the Spanish Government, through the Spanish Agency for International Development (AECID ) and the National Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) for the construction and rehabilitation of secondary networks in different cities at national level.
Works are underway in many cities, for example, in Port-de-Paix, Ouanaminthe, Saint-Marc and Les Cayes. A contract with a consortium Hispanic Colombian-Haitian was also signed to carry out the work in the city of Jacmel. "...they are important work that will enable a significant improvement in water supply in the city. The project involves the construction of three pumping stations on existing wells, construction of a reservoir of 1,100 m3 in the region of Monchile, the realization of a water filtration plant in the area of Zorangers, the expansion of a eservoir of 700m3 to 1,300 m3 still in the same area and also the construction and rehabilitation of the distribution, and the installation, initially, of 3,000 domestic connections..." explained Gérald Jean-Baptiste, Director General of DINEPA.
