Haiti - Finance : High-level meeting with the World Bank and the IMF

Transitional Council Advisor Fritz Alphonse Jean held a high-level meeting at the Embassy of Haiti in Washington with Marcos Chiliatto, Executive Director of the Brazilian Office representing Haiti at the World Bank (WB), André Roncaglia, Executive Director of the Brazilian Office representing Haiti at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Haitian advisor to these institutions, Ms. Ludmilla Buteau-Allien.

The discussion focused on the Enhanced Monitoring Instrument (SMP) agreed between the Haitian Government and the IMF, as well as the Adjusted Cooperation and Investment Framework (RCIA) submitted by the World Bank. The latter, focused mainly on the West and Artibonite departments, prompted comments from Advisor Jean, who advocated for a redistribution of resources in favor of the North and South departments, which are relatively unaffected by urban violence but are home to tens of thousands of displaced people fleeing gang violence.

Discussions also focused on reorganizing the project portfolio to better meet the urgent needs generated by the deteriorating security situation and its impacts on the Haitian population.

This meeting marks an important step in the Haitian Government's efforts to align international financial support with national priorities, taking into account realities on the ground.
