Haiti - Diaspora : Inauguration of two new fundamental schools in the Northeast

More than 800 children in the North-East will be able to learn in better conditions, thanks to the construction of two new schools financed by the National Education Fund (FNE)

On Tuesday, April 11, 2024, Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of National Education in the presence of Jean Ronald Joseph, Director General of the FNE, Ms. Judith Auguste Nazareth, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), and other officials of Education of the Department.

The two fundamental schools inaugurated are the National School Olivert Vincent de Baptiste, located in Gens-de-Nantes, 5th municipal section of Ouanaminthe, and the National School of Matelière, located in the 1st municipal section of Capotille, which cost respectively 55.2 Million and 74 Million Gourdes.

The Minister Manigat, who presided over the two ceremonies, said he was satisfied with the buildings and underlined the symbolism of the event in these terms: "What we are inaugurating today is more than a school, it is also faith, hope [...] the hope that many children in rural areas will have a better future through a solid education and following inspiring role models in their community."

Manigat, however, recognized that despite the inauguration of these two schools, there remain many problems in the educational field to be resolved. To remedy this, he announced that several teaching permits for teachers from the North-East are already available and that the process for contracts and letters of appointment for a number of teachers in this department has already been launched by the Government, urging teachers “to truly assume their responsibility towards students”.

In his speech, Jean Ronald Joseph, the Director General of the FNE, warmly welcomed the contribution of the diaspora for these schools, built thanks to funds collected by the Government, through taxes collected on international calls and transfers. Their contribution to the financing of education was highlighted in strong ink by Professor Joseph who humbly presented these achievements as the concrete results of their contribution.
