Haiti - Culture : Carnival of Port-au-Prince, day 1

Sunday February 11, 2024, under the auspices of the Port-au-Prince Town Hall, the Champ-de-Mars was since around 10:00 a.m. the scene of carnival activities on the occasion of the first day.

Like previous years, this first day of carnival parades allowed the public to be immersed in local culture through parades of walking bands, dances and traditional works. Carnival-goers paraded to the rhythm of DJ meringues.

According to Luckson Janvier, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, the DJs will bring a touch of entertainment throughout the route during this period of festivity. He encouraged the carnival-goers whose presence was more modest than in other years to help each other and join forces in order to build a new Haiti...

The event will mobilize the population for three days and is marked by a strong police presence in the various fixed points and various strategic areas of the Champ-de-Mars in order to avoid any slippage.

In addition, health professionals and ambulances were mobilized to rescue possible victims and firefighters were noticed on site in the event of a fire.

The Ministry of Culture renews its commitment to work for the preservation and promotion of Haitian culture. Indeed, the Ministry congratulates all those involved in the success of the carnival festivities across the country, particularly those in Port-au-Prince.
