Haiti - Politic : Towards the reopening of the border crossing on the Haitian side ?

Saturday November 4th, 2023, the Haitian authorities, after agreement with the Dominican authorities, opened the border gates with Dajabón for the second time.

The Haitian authorities have confirmed the opening of the Haitian border for Saturday November 4th and Wednesday November 8.

Moïse Charles Pierre, Departmental Delegate of the North-East, explained that the purchase and sale of goods was not the reason for the reopening of the border post with the Dominican Republic, he indicated that Haitian traders made a request , which was accepted "Once again we give two days to Haitian businessmen and merchants to recover the goods stored at the binational market of Dajabón in the Dominican Republic."

Entry from Haitian territory was monitored by members of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps.

That same day, Haitian customs officers continued to seize and destroy goods coming from the Dominican Republic from Haitians who, despite the ban, had made purchases, mainly food in Dajabón and tried to bring them back to Haiti...

Although it has not been officially announced, a meeting of representatives of the two countries is expected to be held this week to discuss the reopening of the border crossing on the Haitian side.

An uncertain result in the absence of compromise because Haiti conditions the abandonment of all Dominican measures for a return to normal and the Haitians are demanding an apology from the Dominican Government for having unilaterally closed their border (!).
