Haiti - Dom. Rep. : The town of Dajabón militarized

Friday September 15, 2023, first day of closure by the Dominican Republic of the entire border (land, air and sea) with Haiti, following the construction in Haiti of an irrigation canal with a water intake planned on the river Massacre that the Dominican Government "deems illegal", a convoy of military reinforcements announced, arrived in Dajabón.

The troops, armored vehicles and helicopters joined the esplanade of the Beller Fortress of this city, from where all military operations are directed under the command of Brigadier General Paino Perdomo Sánchez, commander of the Fourth Infantry Brigade and the colonels Domingo Cruz Sosa, of the tenth battalion and Juan Adames de Cesfront.

The total closure of the border ordered Thursday by President Abinader, also included the deployment of special forces and armored vehicles, which were already in the Beller fortress, a few minutes from the scene of the conflict that arose between the town Ounaminthe and the La Vigía Dajabón Community.

This Friday, the traditional day of the binational market, Dajabón woke up without activity. The stench of damaged agricultural produce has filled the covered market, while dozens of trucks loaded with goods for Haitian companies are stranded amid the conflict...

A situation which has sparked strong protests among Dajabón traders, who claim that the Government's economic support measures https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40503-haiti-flash-dr-closes-its-land-sea-and-air-borders-with-haiti-goods-and-passengers.html , should cover all traders and they are preparing a demonstration so that the Government's provisions are extended

Despite this situation, the CODEVI free zone opened its doors in Haiti and the entry of Dominican workers (5% of the workforce) was authorized.
