Haiti - Insecurity : The PNH secures different areas of the metropolitan area

The National Police of Haiti (PNH) has deployed specialized units at various points in Port-au-Prince and the metropolitan area, to allow businesses, businesses and diplomatic missions, among others, to resume their activities, said Frantz Elbé, Acting Director General of the PNH.

Elbé expressed concern about the security situation, he acknowledged that several areas are currently controlled by armed groups and announced measures to counter the growth of gangs.

Elbé recognizes the escalation of gang violence, especially in the metropolitan area and said the police are mobilizing in Tabarre, in the center of Port-au-Prince, as well as in Torcel and Croix-des-Bouquets in the North -East, with orders to restore order and stop the advancing gangs.

In Carrefour-Feuilles, the high command confirmed the death of several gang members following police operations, adding that the agents had destroyed some of the hideouts of the bandits and assured "Operations will continue so that the thousands of displaced people can return to their homes."

According to official data, the actions of the gangs in Carrefour Feuilles have forced nearly 17,000 people (source OIM Sept. 2023) to abandon their homes and take refuge in public places, in schools and gymnasiums.
