Haiti - Cité Soleil : God at the center of a very fragile «truce»...

American Father Tom Hagan (81), founder of the charity organization Hands Together, told the Miami Herald newspaper that 5 gang leaders from Cité Soleil (Gabriel Jean-Pierre alias "Ti-Gabriel", Mathias Saintil of the gang coalition " G-Pèp", Iscard Andrice alias "Iska" and Jimmy Chérizier alias "Barbecue" of the gang coalition "G-9 An Fanmi", jointly signed a bilingual truce document (Creole English)...

Hagan, has been in contact for several weeks with gang leaders to try to broker a deal. "He had them sign the document that puts God at the center and asks the leaders to make every effort to ensure the safety of all our children and all our elders".

However, this "truce" where God is at the center must be put into perspective, these gang leaders who write "We promise our loving God to work hard to end the violence and bring peace [...]" careful not to say explicitly that they will stop shooting, but that they are more in favor of Peace and forgiveness, specifies Father Hagan.

Even if this truce is highly commendable and appreciated by the residents, it will take more than faith to put an end to these clashes which, in addition to territorial disputes, are also fueled by the thirst for revenge of "vendetta" type.
