Haiti - Spain : Royal Visit in Haiti

This Friday, October 7, 2011, the Queen Doña Sofía of Spain will travel to Haiti for an official visit of 48 hours, this travel follows the visit of President of the Republic of Haiti in Spain in July of this year. The queen will be in Haiti to support cooperation projects that will improve the housing situation, of the education and of infrastructure.

The President of Haiti and the First Lady will welcome the Queen on her arrival at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, then she will host a reception for the Spanish resident living in Haiti before attending a dinner in her honor by the head of state. The next day, Saturday, will focus on concrete projects of cooperation, the Queen of Spain and the President of Haiti will travel by helicopter to Titanyen, about 30 km north of Port-au-Prince, to know in detail the progress of the construction of a wastewater treatment plant.

Back in the capital, they will go in he outskirts of Cité Soleil, they will visit the Sisters of Charity who work for the poor of the area, the Sisters of Charity in Haiti have a multipurpose center that includes a health clinic, a nutrition center, an activity center for the promotion of women, school canteens, schools and training activities.

The queen will also visit the educational project of the Spanish NGO Jóvenes y Desarrollo and of the Foundation Rinaldi-Salesians of Don Bosco. The project aims not only to rebuild schools that were destroyed after January 12, 2010 but also to improve educational infrastructure, creating new spaces for the community.

In Leogane, the Queen Sofía of Spain will also inquires on the progress of a project of 1,500 homes that are built by the Haitian Red Cross, in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross and the AECI .

Before completing her travel to Haiti, according to our informations the Queen should visit on the base of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah). Recall that the Queen Sofía has already come in Haiti in January 2009.
