Wednesday, December 28 at a press conference, Frantz Elbé, the Acting Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) presented the results of the operations and other activities of the police institution during the year 2022.

While acknowledging that the police initially were not prepared to wage war on organized crime, he welcomed efforts to address the problem of insecurity and dismantle armed gangs despite limited resources.

Main key figures for 2022 :

1,140 police operations;

149 bandits killed;

41 hostages freed;

93 kidnapping attempts foiled (Port-ua-Prince and Artibonite);

12,964 arrests: assassinations (301 arrests); drugs (348); smuggling and trafficking in persons (124); financial crimes (61); rapes (312) and active gang members (334)

63 searches;

Seizure of 367 firearms including 39 assault rifles;

Seizure of 146,234 munitions;

58 vehicles and 2,533 motorcycles confiscated;

3 boats and a yacht seized;

Seizure of 2,738.38 kilos of narcotics including 54.87 kilos of cocaine;

Destruction of 5 drug plantations.

Furthermore, Frantz Elbé informed that:

1,254 police officers and 174 civilian employees were dismissed for various reasons;

10,825 checks totaling 219 million 795 thousand 500 gourdes were returned to the Ministry of Finance;

1,200 debit cards have been cancelled…
