Haiti - Politic : Intervention of the PM at the meeting of the Aid Effectiveness Committee for 2022 (Video)

Thursday, June 2nd at the Hotel Montana, during his speech at the opening of the meeting of the Aid Effectiveness Committee (CEA) of the Coordination Framework for External Aid for the Development of Haiti (CAED) for the year 2022, (a consultation at the highest level between the Government and its technical and financial partners), Prime Dr Ariel Henry declared :

Excerpts from the intervention of Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry :

"[...] This is an opportunity for the Government to renew the much-desired dialogue with Haiti's development partners [...] I remind you that the sum of $600 million [...] in the form of pledges of donations, was made by international partners https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35978-haiti-flash-the-pm-obtains-promises-of-international-commitment-of-$600-million.html . I would like once again to commend this gigantic effort to support the recovery and reconstruction of the southern peninsula [...]

[...] The organization of elections, in order to hand over the management of the affairs of the country to elected officials, remains our central priority. The dysfunction of institutions (Parliament, Court of Cassation, CSPJ, etc...) has serious implications for democratic governance. Improving the country's security situation remains a prerequisite for these elections. The Government is working to multiply its energies to eradicate these groups which sow mourning and desolation in the country [...] Nevertheless, the means remain largely insufficient compared to the scale of the operations to be carried out. We not only need more equipment, but also training adapted to the context of these operations.

[...] An urgent response is being made to the rather severe socio-economic crisis currently raging in the country. The main aspect of this crisis is food insecurity. Today, more than 4.4 million people are affected.

[...] The migration crisis is aggravating our precarious situation where thousands of our nationals are being repatriated in difficult conditions.

[...] Strengthening the country's resilience to natural disasters is one of our priorities. Natural phenomena (droughts, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes) contribute enormously to worsening our situation, Haiti being one of the most vulnerable countries in the Caribbean.

[...] The focus will be particularly on these emergencies: housing to be rebuilt, repaired or reinforced; damaged or collapsed schools; people in a situation of food insecurity, or in need of humanitarian assistance; displaced persons [...]"
