Haiti - Diaspora : More than 100,000 Haitians live on French territory

The Ambassador of France to the Dominican Republic Eric Fournier, during the opening ceremony of the 9th Week of the Haitian Diaspora underlined the efforts made by the Government of the Dominican Republic, chaired by Luis Abinader, in terms of cooperation with Haiti.

Regarding the immigration of Haitians to France, he revealed that according to estimates, the total number of Haitian immigrants living in France would be over 100,000 (excluding Haitians in an irregular migratory situation). Haitians live mainly in the French Overseas Departments or Regions and the Overseas Collectivities (DROM-COM) : French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Martin but also in France, in particular around Paris.

In addition, Ambassador Fournier underlined that the leaders of the Haitian diapsora "have very dynamic Foundations and Associations" adding that in all French territories more than 300 associations are involved in the sharing of Haitian culture and their solidarity with Haiti.

Recall that the Diaspora Week is an annual event sponsored by the Zile Foundation to promote good coexistence between Haitians and Dominicans, a week which will end on April 20 on the occasion of the Haitian diaspora national holiday.
