Haiti - Security : New provisions to fight against the illegal entry of firearms and ammunition

In a memorandum to the directors of the central office, the customs offices of the port, the airport and of provincial towns, Romel Bell, General Director of the General Customs Administration informs them that following the Memorandum of the Ministry of Economy and Finance at no. BM/AGD/0391/03-2021 of 23 March 2021 relating to the fight against the illegal entry of firearms and ammunition into the national territory, the Directorate General invites them to adapt the following provisions, as of the 5 April 2021 :

1. Prohibit the customs clearance of personal effects in ports other than those of Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien;

2. Require carriers and managers of Customs Stores and Warehouses (MEAD) to unload containers of personal effects for inspection and verification;

3. Inform Shipping Agents and other Operators that importers of vehicles (cars, trucks and others) are strictly prohibited from transporting packages on board these vehicles;

4. Check the packages of personal effects, in whatever authorized office, in the presence of a visiting inspector, a supervisor and the consignee or customs broker personally.
