Haiti - Agriculture : Signature of 5 cooperation projects for a total amount of US$ 2.15 million

On February 26, the Haitian State, represented by Patrix Sévère Minister of Agriculture and the Representative in Haiti of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) José Luis Fernandez, signed 5 projects technical cooperation for a total amount of US $ 2.15 million.

These integrated projects for Haiti in the "hand in hand" initiative should allow, among other things :

Guarantee the food security of certain vulnerable sections of the country;

Support for the implementation of the national policy and strategy for sovereignty and food security and nutrition in Haiti;

Support to the Ministry of Agriculture in the fight against phytophthora colocasiae, the causative agent of taro downy mildew through the production of healthy seeds in Haiti;

Support for urban and peri-urban agriculture for the generation and diversification of income for young people and unemployed women;

Emergency assistance to protect and restore the livelihoods of vulnerable populations in the emergency phase of the North West department.

"FAO is developing with the Haitian Government a technical cooperation defined through the Country Programming Framework, which aligns with the Priorities of the State," declared José Luis Fernandez adding "To support the Government's efforts in sustainable development in the agricultural sector, FAO provides technical support through institutional support and support for the development of sectors. The support of this institution is also reflected in its contribution to the conservation and management of natural resources and by strengthening the resilience of communities faced the natural disasters and food crises."

Thanking the FAO for its support for initiatives aimed at boosting the agricultural sector, Minister Sévère said that the signing of these projects demonstrates the importance of such cooperation. He promised to do everything possible to ensure that these projects are carried out with the greatest transparency for the benefit of the most vulnerable sections of the country.
