Haiti - Agriculture : The Ministry will support 8,000 producers in Nippes

The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Resilient Productive Territories project, is preparing to support more than 8,000 agricultural producers in three communes in the Nippes department.

Bernard Edmond, the Project Coordinator in Les Nippes, explains that the support mainly concerns soil preparation and seeds as well as support in the production of bananas, beans and market garden products.

For now, Bernard Edmond explains that the emphasis is mostly on places where there is an irrigation system. Thus, 1,400 hectares of land are being plowed, in particular 400 ha in Petite-Rivières des Nippes and Paillant and 600 ha in the Plaine de Baconois (Anse-à-Veau)

According to the Coordinator's details, 1,295 kilos of cabbage seeds, 436,000 banana suckers and 57,000 bags of compost will be distributed during this month. Adding that the distribution of bean seeds is being reviewed in order to launch a new season with the support of the Alliance Agricole Internationale (AAI) by February.

In order to ensure the smooth running of the activities under this project, the Ministry of Agriculture through its Departmental Directorate is very involved. According to Bruno Edmond, the Departmental Director, Bruno Edmond, in addition to housing the project, the Departmental Directorate and the Communal Agricultural Offices support and supervise all the activities of this project.
