Haiti - Politic : The CONAMIDH asks to Martelly to nominate the Commander-in-Chief of the army

Yesterday Thursday, during the question period of the weekly press briefing, of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah), Edmond Mulet, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the UN in Haiti answered a question about whether he was aware that currently in Haiti there are troops who train under the direction of the national coordination of demobilized soldiers of the former army and which call for the mobilization of the armed forces of Haiti.

"Yes, indeed we are aware. They are in their country, they are training, take formation and request the restitution of the Haitian army. But it is a sovereign decision of the Haitian State, of the next Government. I think understand that the concept, the model has not yet been defined. The type of security force that will be created in the country will also depend on the economic and budgetary aspect that will allow to pay this new force. I think it will take some time before being defined" he answered to the journalist.

Earlier this week, the National Coordination of the demobilized soldiers of the Armed Forces of Haiti (CONAMIDH) has, once again, called the country's future president, Joseph Michel Martelly, to nominate as soon invested (at the power), the Commander-in-Chief of the army in order to remobilize it. The general coordinator of the CONAMIDH, Sergeant David Dormé, stated that it is the future Chief of the army who will have to constitute his staff headquarters (Etat Major), specifying that the person who must become the next army chief must be a military educated, wise, moderate, and who understand the officers and soldiers, citing a few names : Colonel Joseph Baguidy former head of anti-gang and Majors Dieunord Alexandre and Gerard Dalvius. The Coordinator-General also states that these men can be supported by civilians whose the diplomat Olicier Pieriche and the historian George Michael to constitute the high staff headquarters (haut Etat major) of the army.

"We need a modern army, at the service of the population, able to work with the Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) to ensure the security of the country and of its citizens and their goods" precise the Sergeant, adding that upon appointment of the next army chief he will present at the headquarters the troop he leads, and it will be the same for the troop of Sergeant Jean Fednel Lafalaise, Secretary General of CONAMIDH.

The Sergeant recalls that "we have been demobilized, but we remain a legal force [...] today, there are young people who have returned to the ranks of the army and who train in order to replace the missing or those who have become old", recalling that "parliamentarians recognized the existence of armed forces in the newly amended constitution"

Stay tuned....
