Haitian President Jovenel Moïse insisted yesterday morning on a radio-television of the capital for the formation of a government of national unity and invited the opposition to begin a dialogue to end the current crisis.

After a month and a half of violent anti-government demonstrations calling for his resignation, "without conditions", Jovenel Moïse reiterated that the country is currently at a crossroads, "in which we can turn this crisis into an opportunity".

The Head of State said that a vacancy in the Executive would plunge the country into greater chaos in the hands of gangs, and pointed out that since 1986, after the dictatorship of Duvalier, the country had sixteen Presidents.

"We took the decision," said the president, before apologizing to the people for not having adopted these provisions before.

If we had accepted the Sogener contract, it would have cost the country about $20 million, said Moïse, who stressed that all agreements should be of interest to the people.

He also announced that he did not intend to nationalize a company, but rather to carry out reforms in the energy sector, which would improve state revenues.
