Haiti - FLASH : Good news, Chile grants a stay of 90 days before the deportations

"On behalf of the Haitian government, I thank the Government of Chile for extending the deadline for migrant regularization by 90 days," Foreign Minister Bocchit Edmond declared on his Twitter account.

Recall that before this extension, nearly 16,000 people registered in the Chilean regularization plan, mostly from Haiti (plus the thousands of Haitians not yet registered), were under threat of deportation as of July 22, 2019 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28187-haiti-flash-thousands-of-haitians-in-chile-at-risk-of-deportation.html if they did not complete the regularization process by providing all documents required

According to Álvaro Bellolio, Head of the Immigration Department of the Chilean Ministry of the Interior, this measure is an aid for the Haitian community among others, where more migrants are residing illegally in the country. With this new deadline, all foreigners in irregular migration situation, have until October 22, 2019, to carry out the process that will allow them to work and reside legally in Chile.

A short-term relief for the thousands of Haitians in this situation, who have been hit hard last week, when the Ministry of Haitians Abroad worried about the document problems faced by compatriots abroad and admitted to be unable to help them https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28240-haiti-flash-the-haitian-government-abandons-its-citizens-threatened-with-expulsion-in-chile.html

Note that the Chilean regularization plan requires that you hold a valid passport and a certificate of good life and morals (criminal record) issued by the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police DCPJ in Port-au-Prince, in the absence of this document, our compatriots are unable to regularize their situation.

Recall that the Haitians concerned, have made their request and paid the fees with the Embassy of Haiti in Chile but they desperately waiting for months this document or others to be issued by the Haitian administration in Haiti . A situation that is reminiscent of what happened in the Dominican Republic with the Plan of Regularization (PNRE) and the broken promises of the Government of Haiti https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-14080-icihaiti-social-tens-of-thousands-of-haitians-in-dr-abandoned-by-haiti.html
