Thursday, as part of the commemoration of the 212th anniversary of the assassination of Emperor Jean Jacques Dessalines, the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action launched the official launch of a whole series of socio-cultural and sports activities under the high patronage of President Jovenel Moïse and the Prime Minister, Jean Henri Céant,

The events will take place in the country's departments with a particular focus on the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

Among the activities supported by the Ministry of National Education, there is a text contest open to high school students from public and private schools.

Text contest :

In either Creole or French, students are invited to discuss one of the following subject :

Subject (1) : "In which the Dessalines' thinking about the imperative need to include Haitians is still relevant ?"

Subject (2) : "The development requirements of Haiti in 2018 can they find an anchor in the thought of and the actions of Toussaint Louverture, Alexandre Pétion, Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Henri Christophe? "

The results of this competition will be announced on October 13th.

The texts must be submitted to the school inspection office of the area concerned by each participant, from 5 to 12 October 2018.

In addition, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action announces the mobilization of more than 10,000 young people to sports and leisure activities across the country.

Sports and socio-cultural activities :

On 13 and 14 October 2018, athletics events will bring together several hundred young people at the Sport Center for Hope and on October 17, the Emperor's Marathon will take place on the La Saline-Champs-de-Mars circuit with the participation of several thousand athletes. In football, teams from disadvantaged neighborhoods and community associations will take part in the Emperor's Tournament to be held in the sports centers of the Metropolitan area.

Moreover, music schools, fanfares, cheerleaders and honorary corps will be involved in the realization of the Parade "Tribute to the Emperor" during which more than 3,000 young people supervised by the technicians of the Ministry will walk at the military pace from La Saline to the Pont Rouge on the morning of October 17th.

According to the Minister of Youth Edwing Charles, the Dessalinian ideal will be highlighted through the organization of conferences-debates and other civic and patriotic activities with the support of volunteer brigadiers of the Ministry, who will be mobilized to Marchand Dessalines and at the Pont Rouge.
