Haiti - Tourism : Towards the development of sacred water points

On Friday, as part of the project to rehabilitate and develop sacred water points in Haiti, the National Bureau of Ethnology (BNE) organized an evaluation mission in the North Department.

Led by Erol Josué, the delegation visited various sites including the Stinky source, the Saint-Jacques Basin, and the Waka Basin in order to continue the process of heritage-making of these mystical and therapeutic places and to preserve and enhance the jewels of the intangible cultural heritage of Haiti.

The delegation first went to the Northern Plain to evaluate the Saint Jacques Basin, a popular pilgrimage site for its healing benefits and also known as "attracting luck and success". However, given the poor state of the site, the delegation felt that collective awareness was necessary around its functioning.

The delegation then went to the commune of Port-Margot to visit the Waka Basin, hidden in the depths of the vault of a green mountain. This waterhole which was frequented, according to local residents, by the Amerindians, is still visited today for its spectacular beauty by national and international tourists looking for healing...

Saturday, the work continued in the commune of Milot by an exploration of the site Sanssouci Palace and the Diamond Basin.

BNE's goal is to turn these sacred water points into so many tourist destinations.
